Εάν ο πόλεμος στη Μέση Ανατολή συνεχιστεί μέχρι τον Ιούνιο, επιπλέον 45 εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι θα μπορούσαν να αντιμετωπίσουν οξεία πείνα, αυξάνοντας τον αριθμό παγκοσμίως σε «τρομερό» υψηλό, προειδοποίησαν τα Ηνωμένα Έθνη την Τρίτη.
«Εάν η σύγκρουση στη Μέση Ανατολή συνεχιστεί μέχρι τον Ιούνιο, επιπλέον 45 εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι θα μπορούσαν να ωθηθούν σε οξεία πείνα λόγω των αυξήσεων των τιμών», δήλωσε σε συνέντευξη Τύπου στη Γενεύη ο Καρλ Σκάου, αναπληρωτής Εκτελεστικός Διευθυντής του Παγκόσμιου Επισιτιστικού Προγράμματος του ΟΗΕ.
«Αυτό θα ανέβαζε τα παγκόσμια επίπεδα πείνας σε ιστορικό ρεκόρ και είναι μια τρομακτική προοπτική», είπε, με 319 εκατομμύρια ανθρώπους - ήδη ένα ιστορικό υψηλό - να αντιμετωπίζουν αυτή τη στιγμή οξεία επισιτιστική ανασφάλεια.
