Unified Legislative Framework for Persons with Disabilities Approved by Cabinet

The Council of Ministers has approved a new, unified legislative framework for persons with disabilities, described as an "iconic social reform" by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides. This framework aims to strengthen the Welfare State and holistically upgrade the support of persons with disabilities. A key element of the reform is independent living, with the decoupling of benefits from income criteria for persons with severe disabilities, enhancing their dignity and autonomy. €106 million has been allocated for the three-year period 2026-2028 to implement the new framework. President Christodoulides expressed hope for the swift passage of the bill by Parliament and announced the establishment of the Social Alliance of Citizens, with which there will be regular cooperation.
