Von der Leyen: Cyprus Firefighting Hub a Priority for EU, Hope for Inauguration During Cypriot Presidency

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, met at the new port of Limassol to discuss the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency in the EU Council in 2026. The priorities include migration, climate change, the SAFE programme, water security, the Multiannual Financial Framework, Social Cohesion and the Eastern Mediterranean. Ms. von der Leyen described Cyprus as an important factor in dialogue and diplomacy and announced that the establishment of the Firefighting Hub in Cyprus is a priority for the EU, with the aim of being inaugurated during the Cypriot Presidency. In addition, the Action Plan for the Mediterranean and the importance of stability in the region were discussed.
