President: First Sale of Cypriot Natural Gas via Egypt Targeted for 2028
President Nikos Christodoulides stated that the goal is to achieve the first sale of Cypriot natural gas to Europe through Egypt around 2027-2028. The statement was made after his participation in a charity run in Ayia Napa. The President mentioned that his visit to Egypt tomorrow focuses exclusively on energy matters and will involve the signing of a related agreement. He recalled that the first discovery of natural gas in the Cypriot EEZ was made in 2011, but its exploitation was delayed for over a decade. Achieving the goal of selling natural gas to Europe is considered an important step towards Cyprus's energy independence.
