Christodoulides: Aim for Natural Gas Sales by 2027-2028, Signings for Energy in Egypt

President Nikos Christodoulides stated that the goal is to have the first sale of Cypriot natural gas to Europe via Egypt around 2027-2028. He made the statement after participating in a charity run in Ayia Napa. President Christodoulides mentioned that his visit to Egypt tomorrow concerns exclusively energy issues and that a relevant agreement will be signed. He recalled that the first discovery of natural gas in Cyprus's EEZ was made in 2011, but there has been no exploitation to date. The visit to Egypt is expected to promote cooperation in the energy sector and accelerate the implementation of the plan to sell Cypriot natural gas to Europe. The government expresses optimism that the 2027-2028 target is realistic. President Christodoulides' statement marks a significant development in Cyprus's energy policy and its efforts to exploit its natural resources.
